Worms

A worm and wormwheel is a specialised gear assembly where a worm, resembling a screw, interlocks with a wormwheel, similar to a spur gear with angled teeth.

This setup allows for the transmission of motion and power between two perpendicular shafts, typically at a 90-degree angle. The unique design of the worm, which can be left or right-handed, enables it to control the rotational speed and torque of the wormwheel, making it a versatile component in various applications such as machine tools, electric motors, and musical instrument tuning mechanisms.

Worms and wormwheels are available in Steel EN8M (226M44/080M40/080M46), Bronze (PB1/PB2), and Cast Iron (grade GG20).
